Lee Corso won't be returning to "College GameDay" for the 2026 season, but fans would be happy to know that he's doing well.
Corso, 91, was the face of "College GameDay" from its inception in 1987 until his retirement in August 2025. He put the show on the map due to his rare blend of charisma, humor and knowledge. To this day, his headgear picks still make fans around the country smile.
With the 2026 season approaching fairly soon, ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit had the chance to catch up with Corso in Orlando. It turns out Corso drove through a thunderstorm just to spend time with his former colleague.
"Was great to see The Sunshine Scooter this evening in Orlando," Herbstreit wrote. "Needless to say I lost that battle. He drove over through a thunderstorm and we spent some time together. Was SO GOOD to see him and share a few laughs and get some advice that he can only provide. He looks and sounds amazing! Love ya LC!!"
Herbstreit shared a photo from his latest encounter with Corso, which led to fans pointing out just how happy the former college football coach looks now that he's retired.
"This makes my heart smile, Kirk," one person commented.
"Love this! Coach is looking good and enjoying life," a second fan wrote. "Love this for him."
"LC looks better than ever," a third fan declared.
"I love this picture so much. Coach will be missed this year," another fan said.
Corso and Herbstreit have a special bond.
When Corso retired from "College GameDay" last August, he gave Herbstreit a special shoutout.
“ESPN has been exceptionally generous to me, especially these past few years,” Corso said in a press release. “They accommodated me and supported me, as did my colleagues in the early days of College GameDay. Special thanks to Kirk Herbstreit for his friendship and encouragement. And lest I forget, the fans … truly a blessing to share this with them. ESPN gave me this wonderful opportunity and provided me the support to ensure success. I am genuinely grateful.”
Herbstreit returned the favor by paying tribute to Corso with an emotional video.
“It’s been an incredible,” Herbstreit said before getting choked up. “An incredible honor. And a privilege to be with you, to be your partner for all these years. There will never be another Lee Corso. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me, for this show, for this sport. You’re one of one. Love ya, bud.”
While we'll miss seeing Corso and Herbstreit share the spotlight on "College GameDay," we're glad they're still spending quality time together.
