The Indiana Fever have now lost back-to-back games after falling to the Las Vegas Aces at home on Thursday, 86-84.
Caitlin Clark and the home squad were up by 20 points at one point in the game. Unfortunately, they failed to hold on to the lead. Aces guard Chelsea Gray made a clutch basket at the end of the fourth quarter to force overtime.
The 11-year veteran stepped up once again at the end of the extra period. Gray made a crucial three-pointer to secure the victory at the buzzer for the defending WNBA champions.
However, Fever fans are talking about the late-game turnover that Clark made that led to the game-winning basket.
With a few seconds left in overtime, the three-time WNBA All-Star had the ball in her hands. Clark was up against Las Vegas star A’ja Wilson as she tried to drive the ball into the lane.
The Fever star tried to pass the ball, but it was tipped by Wilson. Both players immediately fought for possession, but Clark dropped to the floor as the Aces star secured the steal.
A new angle of Clark's crucial turnover is currently making the rounds on social media.
The close-up angle of the play has triggered mixed reactions from WNBA fans.
“Great 'pro' defense...perfectly played. No refs bailing out CC on that one!” a comment said.
“I'm a big CC fan, but she just got out muscled on this play,” added another.
“STOP! Both players were going for the ball,” a user mentioned.
“That’s why no one watches the (w)nba, bad refs,” a fan said.
“If that footage is not altered, then shame on the officials! Ridiculous!” another expressed.
“Clear foul,” said a comment.
There was no foul called on the play. Clark's turnover cost Indiana dearly, with Gray knocking down the game-winning buzzer beater in the succeeding play.
The Aces improve to 22-9 this season, while the Fever drop to 19-12.
