The NBA officially confirmed what had been building all season. Victor Wembanyama has etched his name into another exclusive category of league history. With his third consecutive blocks title, the San Antonio Spurs star became just the third player since blocks were officially tracked in 1973-74 to accomplish the feat. The only others to do it are Dikembe Mutombo and Marcus Camby.

That puts Wembanyama in elite defensive territory before even reaching his prime. At just 22 years old, he is already redefining what consistent rim protection looks like in today’s NBA. The Spurs big man will look to build off that as they open the postseason against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday,

Dominance That Shows Up Every Night

Wembanyama’s impact goes far beyond highlight plays. During the 2025-26 season, he averaged over three blocks per game while anchoring one of the league’s most improved defenses. His combination of length, timing, and mobility makes him a unique presence, allowing him to alter shots even when he does not record the block.

Opponents are forced to adjust entire offensive schemes when he is on the floor. That level of disruption is exactly what defined players like Mutombo and Camby during their eras. The difference is that Wembanyama is doing it in a faster, more perimeter-oriented league where traditional rim protection is harder to maintain.

Timing Matters With Postseason Ahead

The milestone arrives at a big moment. With the playoffs approaching, Wembanyama is set to make his postseason debut, adding another chapter of intrigue to his quickly growing resume. Regular-season dominance is one thing, but translating that defensive presence into playoff success is what separates stars from franchise cornerstones.

The Spurs have already taken a major step forward this season, and Wembanyama’s defensive consistency is a central reason why. If that carries into the postseason, this milestone could quickly become a launching point rather than a final achievement.

A Historic Start With More Still Ahead

Three straight blocks titles this early in a career is not just rare, it is historically predictive of long-term defensive greatness.

Wembanyama is already being mentioned alongside some of the best defensive anchors the league has ever seen. And unlike many players who reach milestones later in their careers, he is doing it at the very beginning of his.

That changes the conversation.

Instead of asking whether he can reach elite status, the focus now shifts to how far he can push it. Because if this trajectory continues, the milestone the NBA just announced may end up being one of the earliest entries in a much longer list of historic achievements.
