Basketball fans are convinced Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan "scammed" NBC.
After NBC secured media rights for the NBA, it was announced that Jordan would join the network as a "special contributor." The Hall of Famer was set to have his own docuseries, "MJ: Insights To Excellence."
“I am so excited to see the NBA back on NBC,” Jordan said in a statement. “The NBA on NBC was a meaningful part of my career, and I’m excited about being a special contributor to the project. I’m looking forward to seeing you all when the NBA on NBC launches this October.”
When the 2025-26 NBA season started in October, NBC broadcaster Mike Tirico sat down with Jordan to talk about his legendary career and his "obligation" to improving the current product. Fans really enjoyed listening to the six-time champion in a private setting.
Unfortunately, Tirico revealed on "SI Media with Jimmy Traina" that a follow-up interview with Jordan isn't in the works.
“Nothing scheduled as of now that I know of, but it is a possibility,” Tirico said, via Awful Announcing. “I hope there’s something else after it. Michael was awesome.”
Fans disappointed with MJ.
While it's possible NBC and Jordan will agree to another interview, fans are frustrated that he's not constantly providing his thoughts on the 2025-26 NBA season.
"Had us thinking he was gonna be on set critiquing players performances. Had us hyped for nothing," one fan commented.
"Thank the Basketball Gods! Same sit down 1-on-1 interview split in multiple segments, promoted like each one was new over many weeks, no change of clothes, background, and honestly didn’t live up to the hype," a second fan said. "Poor use of MJ."
"Scammed NBC. Fairs," another fan wrote.
"They were acting like MJ was gonna be on there analyzing games live, dude hit the easiest paycheck of his life," an NBA fan declared.
"Sat down for an hour-long interview and said 'uh yeah that’ll be 40 million dollars please.' Incredible," a social media user wrote.
NBC has not addressed all the backlash surrounding Jordan at this time.
Could Jordan's role with NBC change in the future? Absolutely, but it doesn't sound like he's eager to do so right now.
