Legendary NBA head coach Gregg Popovich is a married man again.
The iconic San Antonio Spurs head coach married the ex-wife of his former assistant coach, Mike Budenholzer, this week. TMZ Sports reports that he married Barth Budenholzer, formerly known as Mrs. Mike Budenholzer.
“According to a marriage license obtained by TMZ … Popovich has tied the knot with Mary Barth Budenholzer, formerly known as Mrs. Mike Budenholzer … who worked very closely with Coach Pop to win 5 NBA Championship rings for the Spurs,” the report states.
“The newlyweds exchanged wedding rings September 16 in Texas … according to the marriage license filed in Bexar County, TX.”
Popovich was married to his first wife, Erin, from 1976 until 2018. She died in April of 2018.

Budenholzer, 57, was an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs from 1996 until 2013. He was a part of four different NBA championship teams in San Antonio.
The longtime NBA coach later served as the head coach of the Hawks from 2013-18 and the Bucks from 2018-23, winning a championship in Milwaukee. Budenholzer last worked as a head coach in Phoenix, from 2024-25.
Popovich, 77, was the Spurs head coach from 1996 until 2025. He officially retired in May of 2025.
“While my love and passion for the game remain, I’ve decided it’s time to step away as head coach,” Popovich said.
“I’m forever grateful to the wonderful players, coaches, staff and fans who allowed me to serve them as the Spurs head coach and am excited for the opportunity to continue to support the organization, community and city that are so meaningful to me,” Popovich said.
Mitch Johnson replaced Popovich as the head coach in San Antonio and led the Spurs to an NBA Finals appearance last June.
