The 2025-26 NBA regular season and postseason were pretty huge for Mike Breen.
Breen, ESPN's leading play-by-play man and the local guy for the New York Knicks, had quite a year. Breen was on the call for the New York Knicks' first championship run in 50 years. The Knicks topped the Spurs, 4-1, clinching the series with a comeback victory in Game 5.
But while the 2025-26 season was a big one for Breen, he's planning on scaling things back a bit in 2026-27 and beyond.

Breen spoke to Puck’s John Ourand and revealed that he's planning on scaling things back as far as his workload goes.
The prominent NBA announcer called more than 100 games in 2025-26, thanks to his Knicks' duties and his national TV games.
“I’ve cut it back a little bit,” Breen said. “But I’m going to have to cut it back a little bit more.”
Breen is not planning on retiring anytime soon, though
Breen still loves it.
“Clearly, I still love it so much, and there’s nothing better than doing the big national games,” he said. “Madison Square Garden is like a second home to me. Calling games there for the local team, it’s a wonderful thing. And if you ask any national broadcaster who’s had a chance to go and do some local telecasts as well, there’s something so wonderful about being around a team and watching how they develop on a day-in and day-out basis. You really get to know the team and the personalities, and that makes you a better broadcaster. So, yes, I might cut back soon, but I still love it too much. As long as the people at ESPN and MSG still want to hear me yapping away, I’m good with that.”
It'll be fun to see him back.
