The Colorado Avalanche have secured their position near the top of the NHLstandings, even though results haven't followed with the Western Conference franchise alternating wins and losses for the past seven games.
Forward Nazem Kadri arrived in Colorado at the trade deadline, and he has been an important part of the Avalanche's push, contributing four goals and nine points in 16 games after arriving from the Calgary Flames.
The veteran center is also a familiar face in Denver, as he returned to the organization where he previously won a Stanley Cup and produced one of the best seasons of his career.
Kadri’s status in yet another potential return, this time to Calgary, is now in doubt following an injury sustained against the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday.
Judging by head coach Jared Bednar's postgame update, there is a chance Kadri has to wait for his revenge game against the Flames.
“No update,” Bednar said. “Give me a day or two, and we should know more. [We’ll] sort of figure out what his pain tolerance is. I’m sure it’s something that he may or may not be able to play through, but we’ll just take it day by day and see how it goes.”
Kadri left Tuesday’s 3-1 win over the Blues after blocking multiple shots and eventually did not return to the game. Bednar later confirmed the injury involves Kadri’s finger and indicated he is expected to miss at least a few games.
The Flames host the Avalanche at the end of the season, with puck drop set for 9 p.m. ET at Scotiabank Saddledome next Tuesday.
Kadri already faced the Flames once after the deal, scoring twice in a 9-2 win on March 30. The Avs and the Flames have another matchup in Colorado on Thursday, which Kadri is at an even higher risk of missing.
