NASCAR fans are fed up with an official social media post from the league's X account over the weekend.

The NASCAR Cup Series will often post throwback clips from iconic moments in racing over the years. It happened again this weekend. NASCAR's official account on X, formerly known as Twitter, shared a clip of Cole Custer sprinting across the track and attacking John Hunter Nemechek after the two wrecked each other at the finish 10 years ago.

"There was contact on and off the track," NASCAR shared in the official clip.

The clip went super viral, getting millions of views and some big-time interactions, including a repost from Pat McAfee.

But NASCAR fans have a problem with the clip, calling it "hypocritical" behavior.

"Again, PR is PR, and when you get Pat McAfee to repost a 10-year-old truck race on a random Saturday in August, you're doing something right. That being said, hardcore fans were QUICK to point out the double standard by NASCAR — and it's one that I've pointed out for years," Outkick shared.

Should you be promoting something that you'll also punish?

If two drivers get into a fight like that today, they'll be punished - severely. However, NASCAR is also promoting this kind of behavior at the same time.

It's hypocritical.

"Glorifying fights on the main social page for a 'sport' is crazy work. Not that I don't want to see this stuff, but let's not pretend that this doesn't make your brand more like WWE than the NFL. Soap operas for men," one wrote.

"Another post y’all are profiting off of someone else’s fine. Don’t use it as ads if you’re gonna deem it unacceptable behavior," one fan added.

"You guys are a VERY HYPOCRITICAL. You'll promote this to make money but then you'll turn around and fine/take points away when these things happen that help promote the sport," one fan added.

"So you are approving of the action? No penalties/fines i’m sure," one fan added.

It's not unfair to ask NASCAR to pick a side, one way or the other.
