Myles Garrett remains sidelined for the Los Angeles Rams after undergoing knee surgery following the team’s season-opening loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Garrett was placed on injured reserve after the procedure, guaranteeing that he would miss at least four games. That initially put his earliest possible return in Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals. However, a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has cast doubts on his recovery timeline.
Myles Garrett Could Miss at Least Two More Games

Garrett has already missed games against the New York Giants, Denver Broncos and is also out for Sunday’s Week 4 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Because Garrett is on injured reserve, he must miss at least one more game after Sunday, meaning two more games are the minimum from this point if counting Week 4, with the Buffalo Bills matchup in Week 5 also guaranteed to be missed. The Rams initially confirmed he would miss their first four games after being placed on IR.
Latest Timeline Could Push Garrett Into November
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport recently reported that Garrett was given a recovery timeline of approximately six weeks following knee surgery. That would make a Week 9 return against the Washington Commanders on Nov. 8 a realistic target, meaning he could miss five more games from Week 4 onward if that timeline holds.
However, Sean McVay has pushed back on treating six weeks as a firm timetable. The Rams coach said Garrett is making good progress and that the team could not say whether he would need the four-game minimum or six weeks (h/t Cameron DaSilva of The Rams Wire). McVay emphasized that Garrett must be ready for a full return to performance before he comes back.
For now, two more games is the minimum, while a Week 9 return remains a possibility rather than a confirmed target.
