Pumas UNAM hosted San Diego FC this Tuesday, February 10 at Estadio Olimpico Universitario in the second leg of the first round of the Concacaf Champions Cup.
The MLS club made history. Although it could not defeat the Liga MX side, it eliminated them from the Champions Cup thanks to the 4-1 victory it secured in the first leg on February 3 at Snapdragon Stadium.
San Diego FC is the newest franchise in Major League Soccer, while Pumas is a Mexican giant, making this result a statement from U.S. soccer against Liga MX.
That said, the next challenge for Mikey Varas's team will be to face none other than Toluca, the Mexican two-time champion, in the tournament's round of 16. The R16 matches are scheduled to take place in March.
