Major League Baseball revealed their recent Team Power Rankings just six short weeks until the Postseason.
Despite soaring to the best record in baseball at 77-48, the Milwaukee Brewers have stayed put at the number two spot for another week.
While the team does have a 5-5 record in their past 10 games, they just took three out of four games against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Los Angeles in convincing fashion. However, the back-to-back World Series champions still rank in the number one spot.
Rounding out the top three is the American League (AL) leading Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays have been a wagon this season and hold the top spot in a division with three other playoff teams (as of Monday). With pitcher Shane McClanahan returning on Monday, the team will only improve.
Two National League (NL) powerhouses in the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs fall in at four and five. The two teams have been very similar, but the Braves hold the top spot in the NL East while the Cubs are five games up in the Wild Card.
The pervious Power Rankings featured the Boston Red Sox at six and the New York Yankees at seven, this week the rivals have been switched. The Red Sox are coming off of a five-game skid that saw them dip three games below the Yankees. While the Yankees have not been stellar, the swap makes a lot of sense.
Finishing out the list are the Chicago White Sox at eight, and two NL West rivals butting heads for a Wild Card spot in the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres.
The Philadelphia Phillies are noticeably missing the list following a number nine ranking last time. The team’s struggles following the All-Star Break continue despite a three-game sweep of the Twins.
The Wild Card and Division races continue to pick up as we head down the stretch to October.
