The Toronto Blue Jays are currently watching the MLB playoffs unfold, a scenario that would have been shocking to both the organization and its fans a year ago. At this time in 2025, the Blue Jays were in the midst of a run to the World Series.
This year was a big disappointment. The biggest reason Toronto missed out on postseason play, aside from injuries, was the down year from first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
His power completely vanished in 2026, totaling just nine home runs and 57 RBIs across 144 games. He also hit .260 with a .688 OPS, both career lows in his eight-year career.

While Guerrero’s bat never came around, it did not mean he was a complete liability. On the defensive side at first base, Guerrero graded out as one of the best in the league.
According to Baseball Savant, the 27-year-old posted a Fielding Run Value of 6 and recorded 6 outs above average.
As a result, Guerrero was officially nominated for a Gold Glove Award at first base. The other two candidates in the American League are Christian Walker of the Houston Astros and Vinnie Pasquantino of the Kansas City Royals.
Guerrero has won a Gold Glove before, taking home the award back in 2022. He has not won it since, though he was a finalist in 2025 and lost to his teammate at the time, Ty France.
The winners will be announced Sunday, November 1, during an exclusive broadcast on ESPN.
