John Smoltz had a rough performance in FOX’s broadcast booth for Game 1 of the 2026 World Series.
Although things got dicey in the top of the ninth inning, Trevor Megill secured the Game 1 win for the Milwaukee Brewers. With his team leading 3-2, Megill struck out Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jonny DeLuca with two runners in scoring position. It was a thrilling moment for the All-Star right-hander.
“It’s good to get the first win out of the way,” Megill said. “That’s where all the nerves are at. First game, a lot of anticipation and build-up to where we are right now.”
Unfortunately for Megill, he apparently hasn’t done enough to earn respect from Smoltz. Throughout Friday’s broadcast, the Hall of Famer kept referring to Trevor Megill as his younger brother, Tylor Megill.

Fans aren’t happy with John Smoltz.
Unsurprisingly, MLB fans ripped Smoltz to shreds during Game 1 of the World Series.
“Smoltz my man I got some news about Trevor Megill: he was not once a starter for the Mets,” Jon Becker of FanGraphs said.
“Did John Smoltz just confuse Trevor Megill for Tylor Megill?” Frank Fleming of Barstool Sports wrote on X.
“AI slop graphics and John Smoltz spewing nonsense all game long I am begging someone else to get the broadcasting rights for the World Series,” a fan commented.
“Embarrassing for Smoltz to call Trevor Megill a ‘former Mets starter, now Brewers closer’ confusing him with Tylor. This is a brutal booth but because it’s John Smoltz, it doesn’t matter,” another fan said. “Embarrassing on a World Series broadcast.”
We highly doubt FOX makes a change to its booth mid-series, so we’ll just have to hope Smoltz has a better performance in Game 2.
