The rich got richer on Saturday night.
The Los Angeles Dodgers, who have won the past two World Series championships, made a blockbuster trade for Detroit Tigers Cy Young pitcher Tarik Skubal, the best available player on the trade market heading into Monday's deadline. Skubal is on an expiring contract, so the Dodgers will only be getting him for about three months. But, they have both the financial capital and the farm system to make this kind of trade.
ESPN's Jeff Passan broke the big trade news on Saturday evening. "The Los Angeles Dodgers are acquiring Tarik Skubal for outfielder Zyhir Hope, right-hander River Ryan and right-hander Brady Smith, sources tell ESPN," he reported shortly before midnight on Saturday evening.
It's a big move for the Dodgers, but it's just the latest in a long line of them. At this point, MLB fans are just getting fed up.
Baseball fans are ready for a lockout, following the Dodgers' dominance both on and off of the field.
MLB fans call for lockout after Dodgers' big trade
"Skubal to the Dodgers increases the likelihood of a lockout in 2027," one fan wrote.
"I'm ready for a lockout at this point. The power imbalance in this sport is just too much right now. Something needs to change," one fan wrote.
"Bring on a salary cap! And a floor, please," one fan added.
"The fact that the Tigers got nothing for Skubal shows you this all about making the Dodgers unbeatable. They are already unlikable. They have Joe Davis calling their National Game and shoving them in your face and the owners are all backing off saying we cant compete. This is all done so the fans for he first time will demand a salary cap and be on the owners side in the lockout. Its all Rob Manfraud's game plan to destroy MLB so he can blow up the AL and NL and have his new designed league," one fan added.
"Lockout! Lockout! Lockout!" one fan added.
The rest of the 2026 MLB season is going to happen, but get ready for a lockout after that. It's coming.
