A veteran MLB announcer is lucky to be alive after a "violent" hit-and-run during spring training in Arizona.
Veteran Los Angeles Angels announcer Terry Smith told fans this week that he is lucky to be alive following his scary accident. Smith, the announcer for the team's radio broadcast, was involved in a terrifying hit-and-run during MLB spring training out in Arizona earlier this month.
Smith was hit by a car that was traveling up to 90 MPH. The other driver was reportedly being pursued by local police. The first officer who arrived on the scene of the accident told Smith that he was lucky to still be alive.

Smith admitted that it was a very "harrowing" experience, both for himself and for his family.
“I feel extremely fortunate to be on the air with you,” Smith said, via Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. “This was a harrowing experience for me and my family, but I am ready to go and give it a test today. A lot of things have happened to me and my family over the last 72 hours and I’m extremely happy to be with you for today’s broadcast.”
Smith has been with the team since 2002. He previously served as the announcer for the New York Yankees's Triple-A affiliate, the Columbus Clippers.
The 2026 MLB season will start later this month.
