Although Super Bowl LX is in the rearview mirror, SNY announcer Gary Cohen brought up Bad Bunny's performance during this week's spring training game between the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals.

Despite facing a ton of backlash leading up to the Super Bowl, Bad Bunny had a historic performance at Levi's Stadium. Not only did he break Shakira and Jennifer Lopez’s record for most-watched Super Bowl halftime show on YouTube in a 24-hour span, he made history on Telemundo.

“Telemundo averaged 3.3 million viewers, marking the most-watched Super Bowl in U.S. Spanish-language history,” Alex Sherman of CNBC said. “Telemundo’s audience peaked during the halftime show, with an average of 4.8 million viewers – the most-watched Super Bowl halftime in Spanish-language history.”

Cohen, who has been the play-by-play announcer for the Mets for 20 years, praised Bad Bunny for putting on a "spectacular" show.

Clearly, MLB fans were torn on this statement from Cohen. Some people found it unnecessary, while others agreed with his take.

"Gary has always been a man of culture," one person declared.

"This is peak Gary. Mets down by six, two out. Convo on absolutely anything than the game. I love it," a second person wrote.

"Lmao he knows what he's doing. Gary likes triggering people," a social media user wrote.

"Cohen is an established [expletive]. This is the same guy who criticized a player for missing a game to attend a good friend’s funeral," another person commented.

"Spectacularly uninspiring is more like it, but we all know where Gary is coming from," a fan replied.

Cohen has been at the center of controversy before.

During the 2025 season, Cohen questioned Chicago Cubs infielder Matt Shaw's decision to Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk's funeral in Arizona.

“I don’t want to talk about any of the politics of it, but the thought of leaving your team in the middle of a race for any reason other than a family emergency really strikes me as weird,” Cohen said on the SNY broadcast.

Kirk’s former Chief of Staff, Michael McCoy, fired back at Cohen on social media.

“A little over a month ago Charlie’s dream came true… he got the opportunity to walk on Wrigley Field and after – see his friend Matt Shaw hit a home run. A month later, Charlie is gone and Matt Shaw is receiving backlash for attending his friend’s memorial. Shame on Gary Cohen…” McCoy wrote on X.

With the MLB season just around the corner, it probably won't be long before Cohen goes viral again.
