For the New York Jets, next season will be an important step in their rebuild as they continue to navigate major roster transitions ahead of training camp and the 2026 NFL season.
The Jets have made several significant roster changes since last season, continuing their offseason retooling. One notable move was the addition of wide receiver Adonai Mitchell.
Mitchell arrived in New York from Indianapolis as part of the trade package that sent Sauce Gardner to the Colts.
The second-rounder out of Texas struggled to find his footing with the Colts, failing to establish himself as a major part of the offense. The Colts had several established pass catchers, making it difficult for Mitchell to carve out a role.

Mitchell showed significant improvement after arriving in New York. His best game of the season came in the Jets’ Week 13 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, in which he recorded eight receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown.
He ultimately finished the season with 24 receptions, 301 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. One NFL writer believes a full offseason could help him build momentum in the Big Apple.

NFL writer Nick Shook believes a change of scenery and a larger role in the Jets' offense could benefit Mitchell
"Things are better there now, though, starting with the arrival of veteran quarterback Geno Smith and the experience of a full offseason with a team that might actually incorporate him into its plans," Shook said. "I know the talent we saw on display at Texas wasn't an apparition. Some stability and veteran leadership (plus more field time shared with Garrett Wilson) should do him wonders."
It's clear that Mitchell didn't have the best start to his NFL career; however, a fresh change of scenery could help him reach his potential.
Mitchell is one of the more promising players on the Jets' roster. His speed and route-running could make him a potent weapon in the Jets' passing game, an area in which they struggled throughout the 2025 NFL season.
Developing chemistry with Geno Smith while spending more time with Garrett Wilson will be an important storyline for the Jets heading into the 2026 NFL season.
