Mike Washington Jr. could have gotten a bigger role in the Raiders’ offense, but he is trending towards not playing after missing practice on Thursday.
Washington didn’t participate in Thursday’s practice due to foot and back injuries. That was a downgrade from Wednesday, when he was a limited participant.
The Raiders will have one more injury report following Friday’s practice. If Washington is listed as a limited or full participant, he could end up playing on Sunday against the Rams. But if the rookie running back misses two straight practices, he will likely miss Sunday’s game.
A Missed Opportunity
Earlier this week head coach Klint Kubiak said that Washington has earned more snaps in the offense. Starting running back Ashton Jeanty has been struggling, and Washington had a solid performance in the Week 6 loss to Buffalo.
Jeanty ran for just 22 yards on 10 carries against the Bills, while Washington turned his nine rushes into 43 yards. For the season, Jeanty is averaging a miserable 3.3 yards per carry, which opened the door for Washington to get more snaps.
But that could all be lost if he is unable to play this week against the Rams.
Other Injury Updates
Other than Washington, the Raiders’ injury report was good news. Brock Bowers returned to being a full participant in practice after being limited with hamstring and calf issues. Kolton Miller (shoulder) and Foley Fatukasi (shoulder) were both upgraded from limited to full as well.
Tonka Hemingway, who has been out with a concussion, practiced for the first time this week on Thursday. He was listed as a limited participant and could return on Sunday. Hemingway has been the Raiders’ best defensive tackle this season.
