The Seattle Seahawks got the scare of their lives in Week 1.
Star quarterback Sam Darnold went down with an injury, and it did not look good. Fortunately, the worst-case scenario was avoided, as it turned out that Darnold had just suffered a glute injury.
Still, it was expected that Darnold would miss three or four weeks. Then, ahead of Week 2, general manager John Schneider revealed that the team had found out some good news, and Darnold would practice this week.
Darnold did end up practicing, and on Friday, it was revealed that Darnold would actually play in Week 3 against the Commanders.
This was a huge surprise considering the initial timeline was expected to be much longer. Even optimistic outlooks had Darnold missing three games, but instead, he’ll only miss one.
Recently, head coach Mike Macdonald was asked about the recovery, and he didn’t even have an explanation.
Macdonald Calls Darnold’s Quick Return a ‘Medical Miracle’

Darnold revealed earlier this week that he actually worried about whether he’d ever be able to play again. The thinking was that he had fractured his hip, which could have put him up for the rest of the season.
On Friday, Macdonald spoke glowingly about his quarterback and his recovery.
“Really just to see him confident in the things that he’s been doing,” Macdonald said Friday, according to ESPN’s Brady Henderson. “He’s been really positive and says he feels great. He looks great, so we’re rolling. It’s a medical miracle he’s back.”
The quarterback looked like his normal self at practice and didn’t have any restrictions. Darnold was able to go through practice without suffering any setbacks, so he’s ready to roll.
It definitely does seem like a medical miracle, though. How often does an injury start out looking like a season-ender and then end up only keeping the player out for a week? The Seahawks will gladly take the good fortune as they look to repeat as Super Bowl champions.
