Mike Evans underwent testing Monday after leaving the San Francisco 49ers’ 36-30 victory over the Arizona Cardinals with an injury initially believed to affect his ribs.
The 49ers entered the week seeking clarity on whether Evans had a broken rib or an oblique injury. Evans exited Sunday’s game after catching three passes for 34 yards and a touchdown. The wideout was carted off the field, and the 49ers ruled him out.
Shortly afterward, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Evans was dealing with a rib strain.
On Monday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan offered an update after learning about the MRI results. According to 95.7 The Game, Shanahan revealed that Evans is “considered day-to-day” with a “rib injury.”
Shanahan had remained uncertain about the exact nature of the injury after San Francisco improved to 3-0.
“We don’t know yet,” Shanahan said Sunday. “We couldn’t tell if it was a broken rib; we couldn’t tell if it was an oblique, so it’s something we’ll find out probably more tomorrow.”
Evans joined San Francisco this offseason on a three-year deal worth up to $42.4 million after spending his first 12 NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Evans caught six passes for 49 yards and a touchdown in the season-opening victory over the Los Angeles Rams before adding three receptions for 54 yards against the Miami Dolphins. On Sunday, he finished with three receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown.
