Egbuka already proved he can produce against NFL defenses. During his rookie season, he caught 63 passes for 938 yards and six touchdowns while becoming one of Baker Mayfield's favorite targets.
Another reason for optimism is how the Bucs will be utilizing him in the offense. He will be featured in the "Z" or flanker role, allowing him to work both outside and in the slot. This will allow Egbuka greater versatility and enable him to be a bigger presence for the Bucs than even last season.
Egbuka's skill set also makes him an ideal fit in Tampa Bay's offense. He's known for his great route running, steady hands and ability to run after the catch. Those traits have already earned the trust of Mayfield, and another offseason working together should only strengthen that connection.
Why a breakout season is within reach
Many NFL receivers make their biggest leap during their second season as they become more comfortable with the speed of the professional game and develop greater chemistry with their quarterback. Egbuka appears to be ready to make this leap in 2026, and he also has the confidence of Bucs Offensive Coordinator Zac Robinson who has previously praised his efforts, comparing him to Cooper Kupp.
NFL.com's breakout prediction may simply be recognizing what Buccaneers fans have already begun to see. The talent has always been there. If Egbuka continues progressing, 2026 could be the season he establishes himself among the NFL's rising young wide receivers.
