American alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin’s struggles in the Winter Olympics have continued. Four years ago, Shiffrin failed to win a medal after competing in six events at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

This year, at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, Shiffrin decided to participate in three events. She already competed in two of them. The 30-year-old finished fourth in the inaugural team combined event with teammate Breezy Johnson. Shiffrin struggled again in the giant slalom, finishing eighth.

The good news for Shiffrin is that she’s saved the best for last. Her strongest event is the slalom, where she won gold in the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Shiffrin will now be looking to reclaim her crown on Wednesday at the slalom qualifiers and the final.

Shiffrin took to social media on the eve of her final Winter Olympics event. She shared some photos from her practice run ahead of the slalom competition. The most decorated alpine ski World Cup athlete added a three-word caption to her post.

“See you soon,” Shiffrin wrote.

Shiffrin’s message quickly grabbed the attention of fans on social media. Messages of support poured in for the Vail, Colorado, native.

“You got this! See you tomorrow! ❤️” a comment on Instagram read.

“Just enjoy it. Make some nice turns. You got this,” said another.

“remember why you love it 💙” wrote Visa.

“We are all with you Mik ❤️🔥 let it fly and enjoy ❤️“ a reaction read.

“We believe in you!” another said.

“Just do what you do! 🔥” a user posted.

Shiffrin already has three Olympic medals. Two of those are gold. She will now look to add a fourth medal in her 2026 Olympic finale.

The qualifying round of the slalom is scheduled on Wednesday at 4:00 a.m. ET. If she qualifies, Shiffrin will be battling for the gold medal in the final at 7:30 a.m. ET.
