For a decade we've seen ESPN milk constant debates about whether LeBron James or Michael Jordan is the greatest NBA player of all time. But while that debate will likely rage for decades to come, Michael Wilbon has one point of insight to share with the class.

Appearing on First Take this week, Wilbon asserted that Jordan has no ill-will towards LeBron and does not resent him. He recalled Jordan telling him all the way back in 2010 that people need to stop being so hypercritical of LeBron whenever his teams lost in the playoffs.

"If people think Jordan has somehow resented LeBron, they're wrong," Wilbon said plainly.

The statement from Wilbon comes on the heels of LeBron himself addressing the debate over him and MJ.

"You can look at both of us and say that you love both of us without trying to (expletive) on the other person. And usually, it's (expletive) on me," James said. "But I know for sure that I've done my part in this journey."

The Never-ending "GOAT" Debate

The debate over whether Michael Jordan or LeBron James is the greatest player in National Basketball Association history has become the defining argument of modern basketball culture. Jordan long held the consensus GOAT status after leading the Chicago Bulls to six championships in the 1990s, winning six Finals MVPs, five regular-season MVPs, and building a legacy of unmatched scoring, competitiveness, and global influence. For years, comparisons to Jordan were considered unrealistic because his perfect Finals record and cultural impact seemed untouchable.

That changed as LeBron James built a career of extraordinary longevity and versatility with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Los Angeles Lakers. LeBron surpassed all-time scoring records, won championships with three franchises, reached 10 NBA Finals, and became known for elite passing, durability, and all-around play deep into his late 30s and early-40s.

Because they played in different eras with different styles and competition, the Jordan vs. LeBron debate remains subjective—and one of the most discussed topics in sports history.
