Michael Soroka made his preference for 2027 clear after the Arizona Diamondbacks’ season ended Sunday.
Following Arizona’s 9-4 loss to the San Diego Padres, Soroka said he would “absolutely love to return” to the Diamondbacks. Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports shared the comment on X as Arizona’s postseason hopes ended on the final day.
Soroka had the difficult task of starting the game that ultimately eliminated Arizona. He allowed three runs on three hits over 4⅔ innings while striking out four and walking two.
Despite the rough finish, Soroka put together a strong first season with Arizona. He finished 9-5 with a 3.41 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 114 strikeouts across 116 innings in 22 appearances, including 21 starts.
Soroka also had a strong stretch after returning from injury. On Sept. 22, he allowed one earned run and struck out nine over seven innings against the Colorado Rockies.
The right-hander’s season was not without setbacks. Arizona placed him on the 15-day IL in June with a left glute strain after he felt discomfort while warming up. He returned in August but was later sidelined again with right arm inflammation before returning Sept. 9.
Arizona entered Game 162 needing a victory and a Philadelphia Phillies loss to reach the postseason. Instead, the Phillies clinched the final NL Wild Card spot while the Diamondbacks fell to 86-76. San Diego finished 91-71 and secured a Wild Card berth.

Soroka is now a free agent, giving Arizona an offseason decision to make. His public preference is clear, but a return will depend on whether the two sides can reach a new agreement.
For now, his first season in Arizona ends with a strong statistical campaign and a disappointing finish, but Soroka has already made it known where he would like to pitch in 2027.
