San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York was recently arrested in Ohio in a reported prostitution sting. But while many people have been wagging their finger at the billionaire NFL executive, Hall of Fame wideout Michael Irvin is shrugging his shoulders.
Appearing on a Kick stream with N3on, Irvin dismissed the idea that York did anything wrong. He declared that “Everybody’s paying for it” and that York didn’t deserve to be embarrassed as he has over a reported $140 night.
“He got divorced 5-6 months ago so I’m like man, come on. Is that really a crime?” Irvin said.
“Let that man go. Leave it alone… Everybody’s paying for it. You take her out to eat, you’re paying for it. Everybody’s paying for it. So what are we doing? Why we gotta embarrass this man for 140 dollars? People think you’re a billionaire, why didn’t you go to high end places?’ The high end places get you in trouble all the time.”
Irvin is clearly using a very broad definition of “paying for it,” but fans weren’t convinced that his play on words justifies the fact that York attempted to do something illegal:
“‘Is that really a crime?’ Yes Mike, soliciting a prostitute is a crime. You’d think his era of Cowboys would know this,” one user remarked on X.
“My girl paid for dinner last night which now makes me a prostitute…” another joked.
“Habitual breaker of laws, Michael Irvin, defending other breakers of laws. Go figure,” a third said dismissively.
That isn’t to say that everyone disagreed with Irvin. Plenty of people argued that the difference between buying a woman dinner and prostitution is just the extra afterwards.
But the fact of the matter is that those “extra steps” are currently where the line is drawn between legal and illegal.

Jed York’s Situation
York was arrested Sunday, August 23, in East Palestine, Ohio, during a prostitution sting conducted by local police with assistance from the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.
According to court records, York allegedly responded to an online advertisement and arranged to pay $140 for sexual activity before arriving at a mobile-home community, where he was taken into custody. He was initially charged with engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools, with his cellphone considered the “criminal tool” because it was used to arrange the encounter. York posted $5,000 bail and was released.
The case was resolved the following day when York pleaded no contest to amended misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. He was sentenced to one day in jail on each charge, served concurrently and credited as time served, and ordered to pay $1,150 in fines; the $160 seized during his arrest was also forfeited to the human-trafficking task force.
The 49ers said the legal matter had been resolved and declined further comment, while the NFL said it was aware of the arrest and would review it under the league’s personal-conduct policy. No decision has been reached as of writing.
