Micah Parsons Reacts to Packers’ Decision Before Vikings Game

Micah Parsons will miss the Packers’ opener, but the injured star still showed support after Green Bay made an important decision.

Micah Parsons will have to watch from the sidelines as the Green Bay Packers begin their 2026 regular season Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. The star pass rusher remains sidelined while recovering from the torn ACL that ended his 2025 season, with Green Bay placing him on the reserve/physically unable to perform list and ruling him out for at least the first four games.

While Parsons continues his recovery, the Packers have already settled on the players who will represent them as team captains this season. On Monday, Green Bay elected five season-long captains: quarterback Jordan Love and tight end Tucker Kraft on offense, safety Xavier McKinney and linebacker Zaire Franklin on defense, and linebacker Isaiah McDuffie on special teams.

After the announcement, Parsons showed support for the team’s new leadership group by resharing Green Bay’s announcement on his Instagram Stories.

The decision gives Green Bay a mix of familiar voices and a newcomer who quickly established himself as a leader. Love, Kraft, McKinney and McDuffie were all captains last season, while Franklin earned the honor in his first season with the Packers after serving as a captain for the Indianapolis Colts for six consecutive seasons from 2020 through 2025.

Franklin arrived in Green Bay through an offseason trade and has immediately taken on an important role in the defense. McKinney, meanwhile, returns as one of the secondary’s leaders after another strong season, while McDuffie continues to provide a veteran presence on special teams.

The group also represents a change from last season. Green Bay had seven captains in 2025, but Josh Jacobs is currently on the commissioner’s exempt list, while Rashan Gary and Quay Walker are no longer with the team.

Green Bay opens the season at Minnesota on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET, with the Packers attempting to navigate the early portion of the schedule without their biggest defensive star.
