Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck is coming off a season in which he led his team to the College Football Playoff National Championship. Although they fell short, he is still projected as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2026 NFL Draft class and is currently viewed as a potential fourth-round pick in Athlon’s latest mock draft.
Beck spent the first five seasons of his college career with the Georgia Bulldogs before transferring to Miami in 2025. He led the Hurricanes to the national title game, where they lost to the Indiana Hoosiers. In his lone season at Miami, Beck threw for 3,813 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, while adding two rushing touchdowns.
Across his five-year collegiate career, Beck totaled 11,725 passing yards, 88 touchdowns, and 32 interceptions. He also contributed 288 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. While there are concerns about his accuracy and arm strength, he is still widely expected to be an early Day 3 selection.

In Athlon’s latest mock draft, analyst Luke Easterling projects Beck to be selected 140th overall by the New York Jets.
The Jets are coming off a disappointing season in Aaron Glenn’s first year as head coach. He moved quickly to address issues, and the team ultimately parted ways with Justin Fields after a difficult season. Now holding the No. 2 overall pick, New York faces a challenging quarterback market, with no clear franchise option beyond Fernando Mendoza in this class. As a result, the Jets added Geno Smith to the roster.
While Glenn has expressed confidence in Smith, the veteran is coming off a tough season with the Las Vegas Raiders and is at best a bridge quarterback. New York has also been linked to Ty Simpson, though the expectation is that he would be selected outside the first round if the Jets pursue him.
However, Simpson has just one full year of starting experience and is considered more of a developmental prospect. It may be more practical for the Jets to wait until the 2027 draft class to find a long-term solution. In the meantime, Beck could provide a reliable backup option with spot-starting ability.
"A classic pocket passer, Beck has smooth, consistent mechanics and a quick release that allows him to deliver a catchable ball to every level of the field. His starting experience shines through in his ability to quickly process what opposing defenses are throwing at him, and he’s not afraid to take his layups underneath, allowing his playmakers to rack up yards after the catch," Easterling wrote in his scouting report for Beck.
New York’s quarterback uncertainty is unlikely to be resolved anytime soon, making patience a logical approach. If the Jets choose to pass on Simpson and look ahead to 2027, Beck could be an ideal fit as a dependable backup in the interim. The team has even held a meeting with him, suggesting genuine interest.
