Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes have worked hard to make a strong impression on defensive lineman Jeremiah Williams. Out of the 2027 recruiting class, he is a four-star prospect, the No. 33 defensive lineman and the No. 318 player in the nation, per Rivals Industry Rankings.

Not only do his rankings make him an intriguing target, but so does his production. As a junior at Tustin High School, he appeared in 11 games, racking up 67 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, five sacks and 15 hurries. He was even used as a running back, rushing for 170 yards and seven touchdowns.

Miami's hard work had been paying off. Rivals' Adam Gorney previously reported that the Hurricanes and BYU Cougars were leading the charge for his commitment. However, with official visits also scheduled with the North Carolina Tar Heels, UCLA Bruins and Arizona State Sun Devils, it's a high-powered battle.

Unfortunately for the Hurricanes, it's a battle they weren't able to come out on top in. On Thursday, Rivals' national recruiting and transfer portal reporter Hayes Fawcett revealed that Williams has committed to BYU.

It's a big win for the Cougars, who are adding just their third commitment to the 2027 recruiting class. Williams becomes the first defensive lineman that BYU has been able to add so far.

For the Hurricanes, though, they must search elsewhere to build up their defensive line. They do have the best chance (24.9%) to land four-star Xavier Muhammad, according to the Rivals recruiting prediction machine. As of now, Miami's 2027 cycle ranks 11th in the nation with eight commitments.
