Kai Trump, a freshman golfer at the University of Miami, announced a new NIL initiative on Wednesday morning, August 19.
The granddaughter of the President of the United States is selling personalized T-shirts, hats and bags, among other things.
It’s the “Kai Signature Collection.”
“I’ve been so excited to finally share this collection with you guys. I wanted to create pieces that feel like me and that you can actually wear every day, whether you’re heading to class, the golf course, grabbing coffee, traveling, or wherever life takes you. This collection also means so much to me personally. A portion of the proceeds from my August merchandise drop will be donated to several breast cancer awareness organizations in honor of my mom. 🩷,” she wrote.
While it’s admirable to donate a “portion” of proceeds to cancer research, fans are taking issue with the prices.
The “Premium Heavyweight Tee” goes for $48 – more than $50 after taxes, shipping, etc. The “Essential Organic Tank” is $42. The “Classic Dad Hat” is $40.
Fans rip Kai Trump for expensive merchandise
“Her grandfather is a billionaire by the way,” one fan wrote.
“Almost $50 for a T-shirt? Seriously?” one fan wrote.
“So tone deaf,” one added.
Others, meanwhile, are praising her.

This isn’t the first time Kai Trump has faced backlash online, either. Earlier this year, she faced criticism for taking the U.S. Secret Service to an expensive grocery store in Los Angeles for a $20 smoothie.
Kai Trump will be a college athlete starting this fall, playing golf for the University of Miami in South Florida.
She has one of the biggest followings on social media of any college athlete.
