The Chicago Cubs keep swinging big this Trade Deadline, landing another deal an hour before time is up.
The Cubs main focus before Monday's deadline was pitching, and they have loads of it now.
Prior to this breaking trade, they had already acquired Kevin Gausman from the Blue Jays, Braxton Garrett from the Marlins, and Ryan Zeferjahn from the Angels.
Now the Cubs have a two-in-one deal, grabbing right-handed starting pitcher Clay Holmes and outfielder Tyrone Taylor from the New York Mets in exchange for their No. 2 prospect, shortstop Jefferson Rojas.
Holmes is currently on the 60-day injured list with a right fibula fracture, but he is in the middle of a rehab assignment.
Before his injury, Holmes posted a 2.39 ERA with 45 strikeouts and 18 walks in 52 2/3 innings. The 33-year-old is not overpowering, but since transitioning to a starter in 2025 he has been incredible.
Outfielder Tyrone Taylor is having a great 2026 season so far. Mostly known for his excellent arm in the outfield, he has turned it around with his bat this year.
In 67 games, The 32-year-old is slashing .241/.290/.503, good for a .793 OPS, with 10 home runs, 28 RBI and eight doubles.
The prospect the Cubs sent back, Rojas, has an .800 OPS in Double-A with 15 home runs and 57 RBI in 91 games.
