Needing a fresh arm, the New York Mets made a bullpen move on Monday.
The Mets announced that they have optioned right-hander Tobias Myers to Triple-A Syracuse and recalled reliever Joey Gerber ahead of their series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Myers gave up three runs on six hits to the Philadelphia Phillies across three innings (59 pitches) in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the NL East rivals.
Myers, 27, has struggled mightily in the past two months, posting a 6.43 ERA and 14.54 ERA in May and June, respectively. He has allowed 24 earned runs in his last 22.2 innings pitched.
As a reliever this season, Myers has a 5.06 ERA and as an opener his ERA is 15.43. Myers' campaign started off a lot better than it has gone lately, posting a 2.40 ERA through the month of April.
This is now the second time in the span of a month that the Mets have optioned Myers to Triple-A.
The Mets acquired Myers from the Milwaukee Brewers in the Freddy Peralta trade this past offseason.
As for Gerber, this is the third time that the Mets have recalled him from Syracuse this season. The righty has an impressive 1.80 ERA in five big-league innings in 2026. He also holds the ability to give the Mets some length out of the bullpen.
The Mets fired manager Carlos Mendoza on Friday after a disastrous week, where they got swept in a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs.
New York is in last place in the NL East and are 9.5 games back of the third and final Wild Card spot with a record of 35-49.
The Mets had high expectations coming into the season, but this campaign has been quite the nightmare for them.
With the MLB trade deadline five weeks away, the Mets look destined to be sellers.
