Alyssa Thomas has recently been in the headlines for a controversial incident involving Caitlin Clark. The WNBA handed the Phoenix Mercury star a Flagrant 2 foul and a one-game suspension for hitting the Clark in her neck.
She served her suspension on Saturday and spent time with her teammates two days later. They attended the Arizona Diamondbacks' game, and the Mercury forward threw the first pitch along with teammate Kahleah Copper.
The Mercury posted a carousel of pictures and videos showing the team entering Chase Field. It also captured the duo on the mound, all smiles and having fun.
"Merc 🤝 DBacks. The whole squad cheered on AT and Kah as they threw out the first pitch for Mercury night! ⚾️" the Mercury wrote.
Arizona is back at .500 after its 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants on Monday. The team stands at 42-42 on the season and ranks third in the National League West.
The Mercury, on the other hand, defeated the Toronto Tempo 89-80 on Saturday despite playing shorthanded. Copper led the team with 26 points and five assists, while Valeriane Ayayi and Lexi Held contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively. Dewanna Bonner recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Thomas will become eligible to return to action when the Mercury take on the Seattle Storm on Thursday.
They hold a 7-13 record for the season but will play their next three games at home. It gives them a significant opportunity to extend their two-game winning streak and turn their fortunes around. There are still plenty of games left to play this season, and Thomas and Co. could still contend for a playoff spot.
