Phoenix Mercury star Alyssa Thomas has found herself in the middle of a controversy recently after an incident involving Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark.
During a June 24 game, Thomas was caught on video hitting Clark. It came after the Fever playmaker tumbled while attacking the basket, prompting several Mercury players to scramble for the ball.
Thomas was among those who tried to steal the ball away, but she connected her fist with Clark's throat area while the Fever player was down and no longer had the ball. No foul was called on the play, sparking backlash.
The WNBA reviewed the incident and ruled it a retroactive Flagrant 2 foul, while also punishing Thomas with a one-game suspension. The Mercury forward has since spoken about the play, emphasizing that it was a "complete accident."

Now, as Thomas and the rest of the team try to move on from the controversy, the Mercury posted a heartwarming video featuring their players to spread some positivity. Phoenix asked its players to share the achievements that they are most proud of, prompting several great responses.
Thomas, for her part, didn't hesitate to answer. The 34-year-old WNBA veteran shared that winning an Olympic gold medal was a major highlight of her career.
"Hi, my name is AT, and I'm most proud of winning an Olympic gold medal," Thomas stated.
Thomas was part of the 2024 USA women's basketball team that won gold at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. USA defeated France in the final, 67-66.
The 2024 Paris Games were also the Mercury star's Olympic debut, so the achievement was extra special for Thomas.
