Ayan Broomfield is a longtime girlfriend of one of American tennis’ biggest stars, Frances Tiafoe, and has created a persona that goes beyond her relationship with the star.
Broomfield, a former high-level tennis player, has successfully transitioned into fashion, entertainment, content creation and philanthropy, and continues to be deeply involved in the sport that has defined her life.
Ayan Broomfield’s Tennis Career
Broomfield was born and raised in the Toronto region and played junior tennis for several years before heading to UCLA. In 2019, she and Gabby Andrews claimed the NCAA Division I women’s doubles title, her college career’s highlight.
Broomfield also played professionally and peaked at No. 680 in the WTA singles rankings. She eventually retired from full-time professional competition but tennis has always been a major part of her life and career.
Her involvement in the sport also led her to be cast in the 2021 film King Richard, where she was a body double for actress Saniyya Sidney, who played Venus Williams. She was later seen with Tiafoe on Netflix’s Break Point.

Broomfield said, “On court, I feel like the girls have done such an incredible job with diversity and showcasing it.”
She added, “You start, obviously, with Althea Gibson, who passed the torch to Serena and Venus [Williams], who passed the torch to Sloane Stephens and Naomi Osaka, who passed the torch to Coco [Gauff], and there is a growing representation of women of color on court, which is absolutely amazing and great.”
Tiafoe has also credited her with being a significant part of his career and personal life. The American has commended Broomfield for her insight into the rigors of pro tennis and for being someone he can count on in tough times.
