Max Verstappen is attempting one of the most bizarre things of his racing career with “Max vs 100” as he heads back to his karting days. The Red Bull Formula 1 champion will be racing 100 drivers at Silverstone on Wednesday, September 16, with one goal in mind: to pass everyone in front of him.

This will not be a normal karting race, though. A special format has been developed to enable 101 karts to race on the same track.

What Are The Max vs 100 Rules, Shortcuts, & More?

All 101 competitors will be using the same karts, and Verstappen will be in 101st place at the start. The other 100 drivers will determine their starting positions through a qualifying flying lap.

The race will be 30 laps long, and Verstappen will have a narrow margin to get through the massive pack.

The most surprising part is the “Fast Lap.” The 100 challengers have one chance to use a shortcut in the first 15 laps. This is to give them more room to manoeuvre as Verstappen starts to close in.

Verstappen has the same shortcut, but he can’t use it until after half the race. The first 15 laps are especially critical for the challengers, who will have to make the most of their lead before the Red Bull driver gets his own Fast Lap.

What Happens When Max Verstappen Overtakes A Driver?

The rules make the challenge different from a normal race. As he passes other drivers, he is eliminated from the challenge, making the field smaller and smaller.

The 100 drivers will still be racing against each other for their own place, but their main goal is to stay ahead of Verstappen as long as they can. The more they live, the more successful their individual challenge is.

Verstappen, on the other hand, has just 30 laps to clear the entire field. He has admitted that the race against 100 competitors will be “quite hectic”, especially as some of the opponents are likely to be very quick.

Another quirk is that Verstappen will be able to talk to the other drivers during the race, which could provide viewers with a glimpse into the strategy and chaos that is unfolding.

The challenge is held at a specially designed karting circuit at Silverstone and is not open to the public. The event will stream live on Disney+, while ESPN will also provide coverage in the United States.

The big question is whether Verstappen can catch them all before the 30 laps are done, as he is starting from the back of the pack with 100 cars ahead of him.
