The Mavericks have endured yet another unsuccessful season after officially being eliminated from NBA Playoffs contention. As the team looks to reorganize its management under Patrick Dumont’s ownership, a familiar face for Klay Thompson may also emerge as a target.
Dallas has already parted ways with Nico Harrison, but the struggles continue. The veteran NBA GM was replaced by Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi, who have been serving as interim general managers. However, for the long term, the Mavericks have set their sights on a four-time NBA champion executive.
According to a recent report by The Athletic, the Mavericks plan to pursue former Warriors GM Bob Myers. The 51-year-old executive was also linked to the Dallas job last summer when Harrison was still employed. With Klay Thompson also tied to several exit rumors, hiring his former GM could help persuade him to stay longer.
There are, however, concerns about whether Myers would be willing to leave California and relocate to Texas. Moreover, the former Warriors GM currently serves as the president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, which holds ownership stakes in the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Devils, and Crystal Palace F.C. Leaving that role for the Mavericks would be a significant move.
Dallas is also preparing a backup plan. If Myers ultimately declines the offer, the team is reportedly expected to explore other high-profile executives such as Sam Presti, Brad Stevens, and Tim Connelly.
However, all these names are already well-established in their current roles, and luring them away would come at a high cost. Still, for a franchise aiming to regain its former glory, taking such a risk might be worth it.
