Matthew Stafford becomes first QB in NFL history with 20,000 passing yards for 2 teams; the ex-Lion hit the mark for the Rams on 'Sunday Night Football'

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has had an incredibly successful career in the NFL. Heading into Sunday night’s matchup against the Denver Broncos, the 38-year-old, who is in the 18th season of his career, had thrown for 64,998 yards with 427 touchdowns and 198 interceptions.

After struggling in the 2026 season opener against the San Francisco 49ers, finishing the game without a score, Stafford turned his game around in Week 2 against the New York Giants, completing 22 of his 31 passes for 327 yards and four touchdowns.

Since joining the Rams before the 2021 season, Stafford’s numbers have been off the charts, as he came into Sunday with 19,889 passing yards.

In the first half against the Broncos, Stafford achieved something that nobody had done in the history of the league. With a great first two quarters, he surpassed the 20,000-yard mark during his time with the Rams. In doing this, he became the first player in NFL history to throw for over 20,000 yards with two different franchises.

The Rams took to X to congratulate their signal caller on this achievement.

“QB1of1, literally,” Los Angeles said.

The other team Stafford threw for this many yards with was the Detroit Lions. He spent the first 12 years of his career with the Lions after they drafted him with the first overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.

During his Detroit tenure, Stafford threw for 45,109 yards and 282 touchdowns with 144 interceptions.

Through the first two quarters on Sunday, Stafford and the Rams led the Broncos 16-0.
