Half of the field at the 2026 Daytona 500 has been eliminated from Sunday's race following a massive crash.
There were 17 cars involved in a huge wreck at the Daytona International Speedway on Sunday. Roughly half of the field was wiped out with 77 laps to go on Sunday afternoon. The leader of the race ended up wrecking, causing a serious crash including several members of the field.
Justin Allgaier, driving for Dale Earnhardt Jr., appeared to cause the crash. He was put into the wall by Denny Hamlin, while Alex Bowman and Kyle Larson were also involved in the accident.
Crashes have become commonplace at the Daytona 500, but you don't see ones as big as this very often.

"Hamlin had his nose there. The 40 can't drift back up in that situation," one fan wrote.
"Allgaier showing why he shouldn't be in Cup," one fan added.
"Bad block but hopefully he can continue," another fan wrote.
"The cars are rolling billboards and there’s advertising all over the speedway, why do we even need commercials let alone every two minutes. Wonder what ad to race ratio will be afterwards," one fan added.
"Great news! Justin Algaier was able to get a rental car from the local Hertz and he's back out front 😂," one fan added.
It's disappointing to see so much of the field cut out of the race by such a massive crash on Sunday afternoon.
The 2026 Daytona 500 is continuing live on FOX. Hopefully, the rest of the race will be without incident.
