Mason Miller has been exactly as advertised just 10 months into his tenure with the San Diego Padres. Miller joined San Diego at last year’s trade deadline in a blockbuster deal with the Athletics, and he has allowed just four total runs with the organization through 37 appearances.
He made history along the way. Miller pushed his scoreless‑innings streak to 34 2/3 innings, the eighth‑longest by a reliever since 1961, before it was finally snapped earlier this week against the Chicago Cubs.
Miller has been a force in the bullpen. He officially took over closing duties this season after right-hander Robert Suarez left for the Atlanta Braves in free agency this past offseason. Miller has converted all 10 save opportunities this year, and his 10 saves lead all of MLB.

As Miller and the Padres prepare to open a weekend series against the Chicago White Sox at Petco Park on Friday, Miller took to Instagram to make a personal announcement. The 27-year-old announced in a collaborated post with his wife, Jordan Miller, that the couple is expecting their first child.
The post included a video of the two at the beach along with an ultrasound picture and a mirror that read “Baby Miller.” This will be the couple’s first child together. “Entering into our most beautiful season yet 🤍 ‘Every good and perfect gift is from above’ ~ James1:17,” the caption read.
As Miller prepares to enter a new era off the field as a father, he has continued to set the standard on the field. Now in his fourth MLB season, Miller has already established himself as MLB’s best closing pitcher.
There is a chance that the Padres move him back to the starting rotation at some point. But for now he is their most important piece in the bullpen and a true weapon to lock down every close game.
