Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson might have been involved in one of the more intense quarterback battles during the offseason, but both maintained a friendly relationship throughout the battle. Sanders might have lost out to Watson after Todd Monken named the veteran as the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback, but he has conducted himself as a professional with integrity.
However, Sanders can’t be kept out of the news, whether he plays or not. With Watson starting the 2026 NFL season strongly, the spotlight has shifted to Sanders, who has been at the center of trade rumors. However, a recent report by Browns beat reporter Daryl Ruiter said that the Browns have no plans of trading Sanders, despite Jeremy Fowler reporting that the franchise would consider trading Sanders for the right price.

With the Browns reportedly having no plans to trade Sanders, another controversy surrounding Sanders has grabbed the limelight. This incident happened after the Browns defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-24 in the fourth game of the season.
We all know that Sanders has been forced to sit on the sidelines for the Browns, as Watson has solidified his QB1 status following his impressive performances. A clip circulated on social media showing the Browns backup quarterback apparently not cheering after the Steelers win.
However, Mary Kay Cabot has provided an update following the controversial incident. Writing on Cleveland.com, Cabot wrote, “One source said the clip doesn’t reflect how excited Sanders was in the locker room after the game.”
“On several occasions, Sanders has been the first one to run over to congratulate Watson after a touchdown pass. Despite how it’s sometimes been portrayed, the quarterback room is a tight-knit group, and all get along well,” she added.
Anyone who has followed Sanders since his days with the Colorado Buffaloes will know how much of a team player he is, and he has displayed the same attitude despite serving as Watson’s backup during the 2026 season.
