Eugenio Suárez could be on the move again after the Cincinnati Reds placed the veteran infielder and designated hitter on outright waivers.

The decision comes less than a day after Suárez delivered a dramatic ninth-inning grand slam during Cincinnati’s seven-run comeback victory over the San Francisco Giants. With roughly $3 million remaining on his $15 million contract, the 29 other teams now have an opportunity to claim him.

A familiar destination has already emerged as a potential fit. MLB Network insider Jon Morosi suggested that the Seattle Mariners could make sense as a landing spot for Suárez, who previously played for the club.

Seattle enters the situation at 64-70 and sits 3.0 games behind the Houston Astros in the AL West. The Mariners are also four games behind the final American League Wild Card position, leaving them with limited room for error over the final month of the regular season.

Suárez’s 2026 production has been uneven, but his power remains a potential attraction. He is batting .208 with 19 home runs, 57 RBIs and a .705 OPS across 103 games for the Reds.

The veteran has primarily served as a designated hitter while also seeing time at third base. His ability to provide power could give Seattle another option as it attempts to remain in the postseason race.

Suárez’s return to Seattle would also create a notable reunion. He spent several seasons with the Mariners before moving on, establishing himself as one of the club’s most recognizable power hitters during his previous tenure.

The Reds’ decision gives Seattle and the rest of the league a chance to add that power for the stretch run. Whether the Mariners ultimately make a move will depend on how they view Suárez’s offensive upside and the remaining financial commitment.

For now, Suárez’s availability has created an intriguing possibility: a return to Seattle with the postseason race entering its final stretch.
