The Seattle Mariners received encouraging news on Cole Young after the second baseman exited Wednesday's 10-5 loss to the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Young left the game because of dizziness, but manager Dan Wilson said afterward that the 23-year-old is feeling better and is expected to avoid the injured list.

The Mariners hope the issue proves short-lived as they continue chasing the top two teams in the American League West.

Young has become one of Seattle's most reliable everyday players in his sophomore campaign. He entered Wednesday batting .262 with 14 home runs, 52 RBIs, 116 hits and a .725 OPS across 121 games while taking another step forward defensively at second base.

Young's exit came during a frustrating night for Seattle, which surrendered 10 runs to New York and fell further behind in the AL West standings. The Mariners trail the division-leading Houston Astros by 5.5 games after the defeat, making Young's health a key storyline heading into the weekend.

Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reported after the game that Young was dealing with dizziness rather than a structural injury. Wilson added that the infielder was feeling better later Wednesday, offering optimism that he could return soon.

Seattle has leaned heavily on Young's development this season. After hitting just four home runs as a rookie in 2025, he has already more than tripled that total while emerging as one of the club's steadiest infield defenders.
