Cornerback Kamauri Whitfield, out of Orlando, Florida, decommitted from the Tennessee Volunteers on Friday. While the loss certainly stings for the Volunteers, it means other teams will continue their push for the cornerback.

According to Rivals Industry Rankings, Whitfield is a three-star recruit, the No. 48 cornerback and the No. 520 player in the nation. Over the past three seasons with The First Academy, he's had 81 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, one interception, and 12 pass deflections.

Combining his production and rankings makes Whitfield an extremely desirable player for teams looking to upgrade their secondary. He holds offers from the Oklahoma Sooners, Florida Gators, UCF Knights, Nebraska Cornhuskers and North Carolina Tar Heels.

However, when speaking to Rivals' Chad Simmons, Whitfield revealed that the Gators are currently his top choice after taking an unofficial visit in January.

“Florida is in the lead,” he said. “Coach [Jon]Sumrall and coach [Chris] Collins make me feel like I’m at home. There’s a new energy there, and they have a plan to win. My time there last month showed me a lot. Coach Sumrall is showing me he really wants me.”

Sumrall is in his first offseason with the Gators after spending the past two years with the Tulane Green Wave. He's slowly gotten to work, already landing one commitment in the 2027 cycle.

Not only would Whitfield be the second commitment, but also the second cornerback, joining four-star Amare Nugent. However, despite his high praise for Florida, Whitfield has a handful of other teams to consider.

He has official visits scheduled with Florida (May 28), the Oregon Ducks (June 5), Nebraska Cornhuskers (June 12) and the Virginia Tech Hokies (June 19).
