Few NFL teams, if any, have been more disappointing than the Los Angeles Chargers so far this season.
The Chargers dropped to 0-3 on the season on Sunday, falling to the Buffalo Bills. The Chargers fell to the Bills, 24-16, on the road. Justin Herbert, considered by many to be a top NFL quarterback, completed just 20 of 34 passes for 226 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
But while Herbert has been disappointing in 2026, some NFL fans are blaming his new relationship. He got engaged to pop star Madison Beer over the summer.
Is Beer a distraction for Herbert and the Chargers in 2026? Some NFL fans are taking it that far.

NFL fans have not been impressed by Herbert. He’s the latest star quarterback to date a pop star, going as far back to Tony Romo when he dated Jessica Simpson. The Cowboys suffered some heartbreaking losses during that relationship. Chargers fans have to be hoping that this’ll be different.
But fans are not convinced it will be.
“Justin Herbert aint nothing but Ryan Leaf with Madison Beer phone number,” one fan joked.
Legendary NFL star Michael Irvin blamed the relationship, too
“I come from an old school… where all focus must be on winning. Can’t have focus on anything else,” Irvin said.
“You made the wrong drive. Driving your girl to the airport, but you can’t drive this team to that end zone?! That’s a problem.”
The Chargers have a lot of problems, and Herbert is certainly one of them right now.
Of course, it’s very unfair to blame Beer for any of this, as she’s just a supporting fiancee.
