EA Sports has revealed the latest Madden NFL 27 title update, arriving October 21, with changes to gameplay, Franchise Mode, Superstar, and Ultimate Team.

The update focuses heavily on Franchise Mode, addressing salary-cap management, CPU roster decisions, and player progression. Players can also expect gameplay adjustments, new equipment, and additional stadium content.

Madden NFL 27 Franchise Mode Gets Significant Changes

Franchise Mode is one of the biggest focuses of the October 21 update, with EA continuing its efforts to improve long-term league management.

CPU teams should now be less likely to let key players reach free agency, while contract negotiations and salary-cap calculations have also been adjusted.

Here are some of the notable Franchise changes:

  • CPU Roster Management: Improved player re-signing decisions, contract restructuring, and offseason roster moves.
  • Salary Cap: Adjusted contract incentives, guaranteed money, and Dynamic Salary Cap calculations.
  • Player Progression: Addressed excessive player development during multi-season simulations and instances of premature retirement.
  • Custom Draft Classes: Resolved an issue preventing custom draft classes from downloading and importing.
  • Wear and Tear: CPU players should no longer experience Wear and Tear effects when the setting is disabled.
  • Depth Charts: Corrected an issue preventing Auto Reorder from properly updating depth charts.

These adjustments could make a noticeable difference for players who simulate multiple seasons, particularly when it comes to CPU teams retaining star players, managing contracts, and maintaining competitive rosters.

However, EA has an important recommendation for existing Franchise players.

“If you want to receive all of the Salary Cap updates that we included in this Title Update, we recommend that players start new Franchise Leagues,” the developer explained.

Starting a new Franchise is optional, but EA recommends doing so to receive every salary-cap adjustment. The remaining changes will not require a new league.

Gameplay Adjustments and New Content Arrive

Outside Franchise Mode, the October 21 update introduces several gameplay adjustments intended to improve defensive assignments, player behavior, and overall consistency.

The Double or Nothing ability has been slightly reduced in effectiveness across all tiers. EA also adjusted defensive coverage behavior, pass protection assignments, and AI responses to halfback double-pass plays.

Additional changes address unexpected player substitutions during hurry-up situations and defensive package behavior following audibles.

The update also brings several presentation and customization additions:

  • Aaron Rodgers: Four exclusive celebration animations added across multiple modes.
  • New Equipment: 47 helmet facemasks, including new Axiom, Speedflex, and Light variations.
  • International Stadium: Stade de France added to the game.
  • NFL Rivalries: Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans, and Jacksonville Jaguars receive stadium and field updates tied to their selected uniforms in Play Now.
  • Mascots: Updated uniforms for the Eagles, Lions, Bengals, Rams, and Falcons.

EA highlighted several of the new facemask designs ahead of the update, with the complete selection available to explore when it arrives.

Superstar Mode also receives improvements to Showdown stability, progression displays, and store purchases.

Meanwhile, Ultimate Team gets online stability improvements intended to reduce disconnects, alongside corrections to objective tracking, first-down markers, and pack notifications.

While the October 21 update covers several areas of Madden NFL 27, Franchise Mode players stand to benefit most from the changes to long-term league management.
