Luis Arráez is open to staying with the San Francisco Giants, but he does not want a potential trade to change his role on the field. Speaking during All-Star festivities in Philadelphia, the second baseman made it clear he wants to remain at second base if he is dealt before the trade deadline.
The comments come as the Giants enter the break at 41-55 and appear headed toward selling ahead of the deadline. With Arráez on an expiring contract, he has emerged as one of the club's most valuable trade candidates.
Arráez is enjoying another outstanding season, batting .330 with four home runs, 35 RBIs, 119 hits and eight stolen bases in 91 games. His improved defense at second base has also strengthened his value, making him a potential fit for several contenders.
According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Arráez said he hopes to remain with the Giants on a long-term deal. However, if he is traded, he wants to continue playing second base rather than moving to first base or serving primarily as a designated hitter.
The stance reflects the confidence Arráez has built after transforming into one of baseball's best defensive second basemen this season. His work with the Giants has placed him among the league leaders in Outs Above Average while keeping him in the conversation for a Gold Glove Award.
