If you had plans in Baton Rouge centering on the start and end of today’s big LSU-Clemson game, you might want to start canceling them.
A torrential rainstorm hit Tiger Stadium mere minutes before the two college football powerhouses were slated to kick off. Per NCAA rules, a game can’t start when there is lightning detected in the area.
Worse still, it’s looking like the game isn’t going to be allowed to start until a whopping two hours past its original starting time. ESPN’s Holly Rowe reported that the current expected kickoff time is 8:40 p.m. CT.
“Hearing 8:40 pm local kickoff for LSU Clemson if weather holds,” Rowe wrote on X.
As you can probably guess, football fans hoping for a big game – and especially LSU fans that have already spent most of the day at the stadium – are pretty annoyed.
“Sheesh!! Gotta lock in for a late one,” one user wrote on X.
“Lane gonna take another job before this game ever starts,” another joked.
“Bro I’m bout to pass out now. I gotta make it till 9:40?!” wrote a third.
“Boy I might be incapacitated by then.”
“No Ma’am! Some of us are old. However we shall still alternate beer and coffee!”
“Thanks Holly. We’ve already eaten all of our food!”
“Good lord… may miss most of that lol.”

LSU vs. Clemson
It’s rare that a Week 1 college football game has as many storylines as this LSU-Clemson game. Most of it centers on LSU head coach Lane Kiffin’s decision to recruit players who spent the summer on NFL rosters thanks to some very favorable court rulings.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has railed against LSU’s actions, openly complaining and trash-talking Kiffin’s team ahead of the big game.
LSU is favored by two scores in the game though, so it will take a pretty monumental upset for Swinney to make the program eat even a morsel of humble pie.
