Loyola University Chicago has come up with the perfect way to honor its beloved Sister Jean for generations.
Back in October 2025, Loyola University Chicago announced that Sister Jean passed away at the age of 106. She became a beloved figure in the college basketball community in 2018 since she attended each and every game for the Ramblers during their Final Four run.
“In many roles at Loyola over the course of more than 60 years, Sister Jean was an invaluable source of wisdom and grace for generations of students, faculty, and staff,” Loyola President Mark C. Reed said. “While we feel grief and a sense of loss, there is great joy in her legacy. Her presence was a profound blessing for our entire community and her spirit abides in thousands of lives. In her honor, we can aspire to share with others the love and compassion Sister Jean shared with us.”

Since Sister Jean would’ve turned 107 this past Friday, Loyola University Chicago decided to pay tribute to her by unveiling her very own statue.
The statue, which is placed outside Loyola’s Athletic Center, shows Sister Jean sitting on a low bench.
Fitting tribute for Sister Jean.
Sister Jean referred to Loyola Chicago as her home, so it’s only right that her legacy will live on for years to come.
“Today, we’re unveiling Sister Jean’s statue, and today’s her birthday. I guarantee you, Sister Jean put this one in the books long ago,” Loyola athletic director Steve Watson said. “She loved Loyola for decades and was the team’s chaplain and ardent supporter for many years, keeping the students focused on what truly mattered: faith and the spirit of competition.”
We’re hoping Sister Jean’s statue puts a smile on students’ faces this fall.
