The Detroit Lions are holding multiple position battles in training camp, including at No. 2 cornerback. D.J. Reed is set to return as the Lions' top boundary corner, but with the team cutting Terrion Arnold due to legal issues, there is a massive void at the other spot.
So far in camp, Rock Ya-Sin and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. are the top competitors for the starting job, and Nick Whiteside has also come on strong. However, Detroit may look to spice up the battle by adding a former Pro Bowl corner to the mix.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Lions had Trevon Diggs in for a workout this weekend. Diggs finished the 2025 campaign with the Green Bay Packers after being waived by his longtime team, the Dallas Cowboys, at the end of December. Green Bay released the Alabama product after their season ended in the wild-card to the Chicago Bears.
Diggs is past his peak and has had a bunch of injury issues in recent years, but the two-time Pro Bowler could be a solid addition to the secondary as he looks to find a new home.

If the Lions were to sign Diggs, he wouldn't join the team and immediately step into the starting gig. But the veteran would give Detroit another option to evaluate for the CB2 role, and put pressure on Ya-Sin and Rakestraw to perform.
Diggs has 64 career starts under his belt, and at his best, he is one of the most prominent ballhawks in the sport. It's unclear whether Diggs still has that level of play in him or is capable of being a full-time starter. But if the Lions do sign the 27-year-old and he provides serviceable play in camp and the preseason, Diggs could stick around in the Motor City as a valuable backup.
Overall, signing Diggs would be a low-risk move for Detroit. At best, the 2020 second-round pick would emerge as a serious contender for the No. 2 boundary corner spot, and at worst, he would be another camp body for the Lions as they look to finalize the 53-man roster before the cutdown deadline in late August.
