For the second year in a row, American alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn turned heads at the ESPY Awards.
A year ago, Vonn was nominated for "Best Comeback Athlete" alongside Gabi Landeskog, Suni Lee and Mallory Swanson. She certainly earned that nomination when she came out of retirement and earned a second-place finish in the super-G at the World Cup Finals.
Although she didn't win the ESPY for Best Comeback Athlete in 2025, Vonn made headlines for wearing a strapless dress with a thigh-high split near her left leg. Some fans thought she suffered a wardrobe malfunction, but it turns out that was by design.
"For those who didn’t quite get it… the underwear are a part of the look," Vonn said.

As for this year's outfit, Vonn went with a Gucci gown covered in sparkling sequins. According to PEOPLE, she completed her look with expensive jewelry.
"She wore her blonde hair parted to the side and cascading over one shoulder and added diamond drop earrings by Fred Leighton and a diamond ring by Kwiat," PEOPLE reported.
Judging by the photos she shared online, Vonn didn't seem hampered by her severe leg injury while on the red carper in New York City.
"When the ESPYs move to NYC you know it’s gonna be good," Vonn wrote. "Congratulations to all the nominees and winners. Always inspiring to see all of the incredible things athletes can achieve."

Vonn, 41, suffered a complex tibia fracture during the downhill skiing event at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Her injury required her to undergo several surgeries before returning to the United States.
"Even since the Met, I feel amazing," she told PEOPLE. "I’m working out in the gym finally, which has been a huge step forward for me, but it’s been a very slow process, you know, it’s been 5 months since I’ve been able to actually go to the gym in a somewhat meaningful way, and walking is still actually really hard for me. My ankle is still broken, but you know, one thing at a time. My leg is healing, and that’s important."
Vonn has not officially retired yet despite suffering such a brutal injury. Who knows? Maybe she's planning another improbable comeback.
